Healing Is Not A Solo Journey
In our last post, we explored how Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) can be a powerful and effective approach on the healing journey, especially for those navigating intense emotions, stress, or patterns that feel hard to change. At its heart, DBT is about learning to hold two truths at once: accepting ourselves as we are, while also working toward meaningful change.
For many people, that healing work doesn’t happen in isolation, it happens in connection. That’s where the DBT DIME Program comes in: a group therapy experience that offers not only practical skills but also the supportive presence of others walking a similar path. Whether you’re a teen, young adult, or adult, the DIME Program provides a structured and empowering space to build resilience, strengthen relationships, and feel more grounded in everyday life. Our next cycle is tentatively set to begin on September 8, 2025, with separate groups available by age range.
Support While You Wait
We know that when you’re feeling overwhelmed, especially if you’re dealing with trauma, which comes with high stress, or big emotional waves, it can be hard to wait for support. If that’s where you find yourself right now, individual therapy can be a helpful starting point. It offers a space to explore what you’re carrying, process emotions at your own pace, and receive support that’s tailored to your unique needs and history.
Group therapy and individual therapy often work beautifully together. While DIME focuses on learning practical skills in a supportive community setting, individual therapy allows for deeper, more personalized work, especially around things that may feel too vulnerable to share in a group. If you’re not sure which path is right for you, we’re happy to talk it through. Support doesn’t have to wait.
What Is the DBT DIME Program?
The DBT DIME Program is a 20–25-week group therapy experience that blends psychoeducation, skills training, and community connection. It includes:
- A curated individual assessment process
- Two commitment and orientation sessions
- Weekly skills-based group sessions
- A final wrap-up individual session
DIME stands for:
- Distress Tolerance
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Mindfulness
- Emotion Regulation
Rooted in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), this program emphasizes the balance between acceptance and change. Participants learn to meet themselves where they are while developing new tools to manage emotions, strengthen relationships, and move toward their goals.

Why Group Therapy Works
Group therapy provides a unique opportunity to grow through shared experience. In a safe and structured environment, participants learn from one another, practice new skills, and support each other in real time. Here are some key points when thinking about the benefits of group therapy.
Processing Experiences Together
Participants are encouraged to speak openly about their challenges in a respectful, nonjudgmental space. Sharing personal stories can help individuals better understand their emotions and patterns. Feedback from peers often leads to powerful insights and reminds members that they’re not alone in what they’re feeling.
Facing Challenges Together
As trust builds within the group, members tend to open up more fully about difficult experiences. This gradual sharing process reduces avoidance and builds emotional strength. Activities like role-playing or scenario discussions allow participants to practice new responses and coping strategies in a supportive environment.
Building Emotional Resilience
One of the most valuable aspects of group therapy is the normalization of emotions. Hearing others express similar struggles validates personal experiences and reduces shame. Through skill-building exercises, members learn practical tools, such as grounding, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation, that can be used both inside and outside of sessions. Over time, group members often notice themselves reacting less and responding more thoughtfully to stressors.
Learning Through Psychoeducation
Each session incorporates psychoeducation on topics like emotional regulation, the nervous system, and communication strategies. Understanding the “why” behind your experiences can empower change and foster long-term growth.
Support, Validation, and Closure
Group therapy naturally fosters connection. Many members report feeling a deep sense of relief and belonging as they move through the process together. Sessions often end with guided reflection or journaling, helping individuals integrate what they’ve learned and track their progress over time.
