What can therapy help with?

Let’s face it; life throws us a mixed bag of emotions each day, and sometimes, it’s tough to navigate through them. If you find your emotions go from 0 to 100 quickly, or you find that once you get angry or upset you stay that way for a very long time and it’s hard to feel better, it may be a good idea to seek support. Therapy can help you develop effective strategies to regulate your emotions and navigate life’s twists and turns with confidence and resilience.

Life transitions – such as a change in family dynamics or your career – can bring about noticeable shifts in behaviour or mood, like withdrawing from activities or experiencing changes in sleep and eating patterns. If these signs resonate with you, seeking therapy can be valuable in navigating through changes with resilience. We offer a supportive space to address and understand the challenges that come with life transitions, empowering you to embrace change and thrive in new circumstances.

Relationships can be challenging, yet they’re often one of life’s greatest joys…right up there with a warm doughnut or puppy kisses. 🙂 If your relationships are feeling strained or you’re facing challenges that you aren’t sure how to navigate, therapy can help you develop stronger communication skills to express your needs, establish healthy boundaries, and cultivate meaningful connections.

Life is anything but simple. With a myriad of decisions and experiences, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure about what’s best for you. If you find yourself grappling with confusion or uncertainty, therapy provides a supportive space to explore your identity, aspirations, and direction in life. Let us help you navigate through the maze and discover who you are, what you want, and where you want to go.

If you or someone you know has been having thoughts or showing behaviours towards self-harm or suicide, it’s so important to reach out for support as soon as possible. There are no feelings that are off-limits here, and we are here to support you through it all. You’re not alone.

Your journey is unique to you;
your therapy should be too.

Frequently Asked Questions

There’s no cut and dry answer here because everyone, just like you, is unique! Research shows us that most people begin to feel some change within a few sessions while others attend for months or years. You can keep coming to therapy for as long as you need! Even once we’ve accomplished your goals and you’re feeling great, therapy can be a place for you to chill out, talk things through, or get great advice from someone you trust.

It sounds like you have awesome friends. Congrats, that’s fantastic! You trust them, you know them, and they’ve been genuinely helpful in things that you’ve gone through. Seeing a therapist has additional benefits:

  • A therapist is a highly qualified professional trained in strategies, skills, and modalities to help you achieve your goals.
  • A therapist is confidential and totally objective.
  • A therapist prioritizes you and your feelings; you never have to feel guilty about taking your therapist’s time.
  • Your therapist has professional boundaries and this is really important to support you.

OK, you’ve had your intake meeting that went awesomely and you think you found the perfect therapist, now it’s time to start treatment. What the heck does that look like? Don’t worry, your therapist is happy and skilled in supporting you during the first session jitters. They’re completely normal. After all, you’re sharing your most intimate secrets with a stranger.

Here are some suggestions to help make it go smoothly for you:

  • Come to your session with a beverage in case your mouth gets dry as you’ll be talking a lot. (no cocktails, please! :-))
  • Try and have an open mind about therapy and the possibility that it may be able to help you.
  • Consider writing down specific issues or topics that you’d like to cover. When you’re in a session, it can be easy to draw a blank and be a bit nervous. Not to worry, we’re here to help!
  • Be prepared to speak your mind openly and honestly. You’ll chat about your needs, your opinions, your thoughts, your feelings, your values… and maybe more.

This session is about you and your therapist is excited to support you in this awesome journey you’ve decided to take. Well done!

Great question! Often people have a gut feeling about whether their therapist is a good fit. You know you like someone if you feel comfortable around them, you feel open being yourself, and you’re excited for sessions. Your therapist comes alongside you, supporting you through challenging situations and confusing emotions. When things are a good fit, sessions tend to feel productive, and you will feel comfortable and free to express your true feelings.

Do You Have More Questions?
